Back in February we planned a Christmas trip with Rick's family in Hawaii on the island of Kauai. It had been really fun looking forward to it all year, and now the trip was finally here!
Saturday
We had a non-stop flight from San Francisco to Lihue on the island of Kauai. We rented two SUVs for the week and then drove to Poipu. As we walked into the house (named Hana Hou Hale) we found that it was everything that the pictures online had indicated and more. A four bedroom house and a two bedroom guesthouse with a pool, right on the shore of the Pacific. It was AMAZING! We drove over to Koloa to a grocery store to stock up the kitchen then settled into our room. (Due to a problem with everyone else's flights, they wouldn't be arriving until the next morning).
We had a wonderful dinner at the Beach House restaurant and then sat in the hot tub for a while before heading to bed. Kind of the 'quiet before the storm'...
Sunday
Sunday morning we headed to the airport to pick up Rick's parents (Fred and Katie), his brother and wife (Jim and Katie) and his sister, husband and daughter (Shannon, Chris and Julia. We drove back to the house and everyone was very happy to see the fabulous place we'd be spending the week.
We ended up spending most of the afternoon lounging around the pool and tasting cosmos in the sun. The surf was extremely high and the waves were crashing on the rocks just beyond the patio. It was really fun to watch. Rick made ahi tuna for dinner and after some more time in the hot tub, we all headed to bed.
