Tuesday

On Saturday we had seen an add for skydiving and had 'convinced' Jim and Chris to do it as well. We got up early and headed over to Port Allen, about 10 miles away, to Skydive Kauai. Dave, the owner, greeted us and walked us through all of the waivers (we'd never seen so many sheets that all ended with the line: "I acknowledge that I may be injured or killed.")

Our cute guide Mark harnessed us each up and took us in a Cessna 182 to 10000 feet where we carefully maneuvered onto the tiny platform on the side of the plane, and then jumped off. We had about 30 seconds of freefall, then a few minutes of fast banking turns before landing gently back at the end of the runway. Since we went up one at a time, we each got a chance to watch the others head for the plane and land. The links below show edited videos of each of our jumps.

Later that afternoon Rick and Randy took a short drive past the Hyatt, down a couple of roads marked 'No Trespassing' to a beautiful stretch of beach where we explored for a while. Then we headed back to the house where Fred's cousin and her husband stopped by for a visit. Later on, Jim and Katie made Teriyaki Chicken sandwiches on the grill for dinner.
